Our Story

It all started with a love of ice cream and a little French van…..

Leah Vande Velde and Nathan Wright are the proud owners of Honest Scoop GVL. Leah is a culinary expert who owns Honest Fork, a private chef business in Upstate SC. She is passionate about cooking, focusing on seasonal - locally sourced foods. Nathan is an ice cream enthusiast with a sales and marketing background. Between Nathan’s creative ideas and Leah’s knack for curating unique flavors, they have formed the ideal business partnership.

In 2020 the quest began to create the most unique mobile ice cream and desert bar concept on the East coast. After a lengthy search, a truly vintage 1970 Citroen H van was discovered in the Netherlands. These vehicles were manufactured for a brief period in France, so the rarity of this model was exactly what Honest Scoop was searching for. The idea of designing a little vintage ice cream truck that could not be found anywhere else was the perfect fit for the business.

While nervously waiting for the Citroen van to be restored in Europe, Leah and Nathan began creating ice cream recipes. If there was anything that Upstate SC was lacking it was good small batch-handmade ice cream… Several local partnerships were formed with businesses like Swamp Rabbit Cafe & Grocery, Camilla’s Kitchen at M. Judson Bookstore, Feed and Seed, and Twin Creeks Lavender Farm just to name a few. These partnerships allowed access to the freshest, locally sourced ingredients, which lead to the most creative ice cream flavors you will find anywhere in the area.

Honest Scoop GVL is now officially open for business! You can find Leah and Nathan scooping ice cream from the fully restored, distinctive mint green little Citroen van occasionally at Unity Park, but the primary focus is private events… Contact us to discuss adding a truly unique experience to your wedding, private party, corporate gathering, or any other special occasion!
